Abstract
⺠The third generation β-blockers may act in a NO-dependent manner. ⺠They activate NOS synthases and/or prevent NO synthase uncoupling. ⺠They preserve NO bioavailability due to their antioxidant properties. ⺠This leads to vasodilatation, anti-proliferation and cardioprotection. ⺠These properties confer distinct advantages for treating cardiovascular disease.
