Abstract
►A novel immunotoxin produced a depletion of cholinergic interneurons in the nucleus accumbens. ►Such lesions rats showed a marked increase in the locomotor activating effects of amphetamine. ►Lesion of intra accumbens cholinergic neurons induced a disruption of sensorimotor gating. ►The administration of haloperidol reversed sensorimotor gating deficits produced by the lesion.
