Abstract
⺠The mechanisms of anxiolytic action of SSRIs are unclear. ⺠SSRI inhibits conditioned freezing, an index of conditioned fear. ⺠Microinjection studies revealed the basolateral amygdala as the target of SSRIs. ⺠The facilitation of 5-HT neurotransmission ameliorates fear/anxiety.
