Abstract
► First report on changes in respiratory variables on 28 days silica exposure. ► Respiratory data were measured in unanesthetized rats using noninvasive methods. ► Silica is not pulmonary nor sensory irritant and does not cause airway obstruction. ► Tidal volume decreases and respiratory frequency increases in time dependent manner. ► Respiratory data supported by biochemical variables and histopathology data.
