Abstract
⺠First report on changes in respiratory variables on 28 days silica exposure. ⺠Respiratory data were measured in unanesthetized rats using noninvasive methods. ⺠Silica is not pulmonary nor sensory irritant and does not cause airway obstruction. ⺠Tidal volume decreases and respiratory frequency increases in time dependent manner. ⺠Respiratory data supported by biochemical variables and histopathology data.
