Abstract
⺠We examined the role of glutathione and oxidative stress in methylmercury toxicity. ⺠A temporal burst of reactive oxygen species was cytoprotective. ⺠Methylmercury depleted glutathione likely via conjugation. ⺠The conjugate is exported by MRP-1 and sensitive to blockade by MK-571. ⺠Export of the conjugate is required for glutathione mediated protection.
