â¢Article series explores the safety of esterified propoxylated glycerols (EPGs).â¢EPGs are fat- and oil-like substances modified to limit their digestion.â¢Studies in experimental animals and humans support its safety.â¢Low potential for interaction with lipid-soluble and other nutrients in GI tract.â¢Low potential for biologically-meaningful effects at the expected consumption level.
This article introduces a series of articles addressing the safety of esterified propoxylated glycerols (EPGs), a family of fat- and oil-like substances that resemble triglycerides in structure and appearance, but have been modified to prevent or limit their digestion when consumed in food. A general summary of the history, composition, metabolism, and safety of EPGs is provided.
