Abstract
⺠γ-Glutamylcysteine (GGC) is a potential therapy for chronic glutathione depletion. ⺠The safety of GGC sodium salt was tested according to OECD toxicology protocols. ⺠GGC sodium salt was not acutely toxic in Wistar rats at 2000 mg/kg body weight. ⺠GGC sodium salt had a NOAEL of at least 1000 mg/kg/day for repeated oral dose. ⺠GGC sodium salt should be considered suitable for GRAS status.
