Abstract
► The UK Food Safety Agency and others gave people a warning not to eat hijiki. ► Hijiki is so-called edible seaweed containing very high amount of inorganic arsenic. ► Toxicity of hijiki was tested using rats. ► Hijiki caused arsenic poisoning with arsenic accumulation in tissues. ► Hijiki may be a realistic health hazard for some subpopulations, especially for Asians.
