Abstract
⺠The UK Food Safety Agency and others gave people a warning not to eat hijiki. ⺠Hijiki is so-called edible seaweed containing very high amount of inorganic arsenic. ⺠Toxicity of hijiki was tested using rats. ⺠Hijiki caused arsenic poisoning with arsenic accumulation in tissues. ⺠Hijiki may be a realistic health hazard for some subpopulations, especially for Asians.
