► Biodurable glass fibers have a long retention time in lung and produce injury and cancer. ► Biosoluble fibers have a short retention time in lung and do not produce injury or cancer. ► IARC does not classify biosoluble fibers as having a potential for causing cancer. ► Biosoluble fibers are not carcinogenic to humans. ► Improved scientific information can guide development of safer products.
