Abstract
⺠The in vitro and in vivo safety assessment of strain Bacteroides xylanisolvens DSM 23964 was investigated. ⺠The strain DSM 23964 shows no mutagenic, clastogenic, or toxicological effects. ⺠The strain DSM 23964 is sensitive to the defense system of the host. ⺠Results support the safety of the potential use of B. xylanisolvens DSM 23964 as human probiotic. ⺠The strain B. xylanisolvens DSM 23964 may be developed as the first natural probiotic strain of the genus Bacteroides.
