Abstract
► Manganese chloride promotes oxidative DNA damage in cultured SH-SY5Y neuronal cells. ► The accumulated DNA damage resulted in cell death via an apoptotic pathway. ► DNA strand breaks/thymine lesions were measured by comet and mass spec analysis. ► The oxidative DNA damage may be associated with Mn-induced reactive oxygen species. ► The addition of exogenous antioxidants can reduce the accumulated DNA damage.
