Abstract
► Bis(2-chloroethoxy)methane(CEM) was quickly absorbed and metabolized to thiodiglycolic acid (TDGA) in rats and mice following dermal application. ► Plasma CEM Cmax and AUC∞, and heart CEM Cmax were higher in rats than in mice and in females than in male counterparts. ► Plasma and heart TDGA Cmax were higher in rats compared to mice and in female rats compared males rats. There was no gender difference in mice. ► Plasma and heart toxicokinetic parameters of CEM are consistent with both the species and gender differences in observed toxicity of CEM.
