Abstract
⺠Mechanism for age-related modification of anesthetic action was not defined. ⺠We studied effects of general anesthetics on hippocampal synaptic transmission. ⺠We first demonstrated age-dependent modification of thiopental action in vitro. ⺠Age-dependent reduction in neurotransmitter (GABA) pools explains our results.
