Abstract
► Exposure of DHEA to bovine liver slices results in increased androgenic activity. ► Formation of various (androgenic) metabolites of DHEA could be confirmed by UPLC-TOFMS analysis. ► DHEA gene expression profiles are comparable to those of the potent androgen 17ß-testosterone. ► Bovine liver slices allow the assessment of various effect-based endpoints for prohormone exposure.
