Abstract

This article describes an innovative approach in which basic forensic nursing science concepts were introduced into a patient scenario that culminated in a sudden, unexpected, and nonnatural death. The simulated clinical experience required senior baccalaureate and acute care and family nurse practitioner students to interact with members of an actual forensic team. The outcomes of the exercise revealed opportunities worth exploring with regard to current nursing education strategies and showed that well-planned simulation exercises can address the competencies necessary for fulfilling nursing and legal responsibilities.
