Featured ArticleSituated Cognition as a Learning Framework for International End-of-Life Simulation

This paper explores the way in which situated cognition can be applied as a pedagogical approach for teaching students and clinicians about quality end-of-life (EOL) care using simulation-based learning. Utilizing the Silver Hour Model, a culturally sensitive EOL simulation was developed as an educational strategy for a baccalaureate nursing curriculum in the Middle East. Student feedback was obtained before, during, and after the event. Through this immersive learning modality, faculty and students formed an intellectual collective whereby social and cognitive interactions enabled students to make greater advances in their knowledge and understanding than would otherwise be possible within the conventional classroom or self-study situation.
