Abstract
In the present paper, a simplified expression for estimating release rates of hazardous gas from a hole on high-pressure pipelines is proposed. It consists of the size of the hole, dimensionless pipeline length, the specific heat ratio of the gas and the frictional force, etc. Taking the 1st order approximation for kinetic energy of the flowing liquid, the new expression results in only 7% deviation from the theoretical complex equations. The deviation reduces to zero when the release point approaches to the reservoir.
