Abstract
► The kidney sodium-phosphate co-transporter (NaPi IIa) is a major regulator of Pi homeostasis. ► NaPiIIa knockout and wild type mice were analyzed by micro-CT and FTIRI to assess bone quality. ► Alterations in geometric and density properties were age (1 month vs. 7 months) and sex-dependent. ► Increased mineral and acid phosphate content was seen in NaPiIIa knockout mice at both ages. ► Bone quality in this hypophosphatemic model is distinct from that in the HYP mouse.
