Abstract
⺠The kidney sodium-phosphate co-transporter (NaPi IIa) is a major regulator of Pi homeostasis. ⺠NaPiIIa knockout and wild type mice were analyzed by micro-CT and FTIRI to assess bone quality. ⺠Alterations in geometric and density properties were age (1 month vs. 7 months) and sex-dependent. ⺠Increased mineral and acid phosphate content was seen in NaPiIIa knockout mice at both ages. ⺠Bone quality in this hypophosphatemic model is distinct from that in the HYP mouse.
