Abstract
⺠This study identified 14,030 women aged â¥Â 50 years with non-vertebral non-hip, 1471 with vertebral, and 193 with multiple fractures. ⺠Overall, health care resource utilization was greater among women across all fracture cohorts compared to the matched non-fracture cohorts. ⺠Mean incremental cost for fractures versus no fractures was £1152 for VF; £690 for NVNHF, and £2581 for MF. ⺠The total incremental cost was highest for hospitalizations representing 54%-90% of the cost followed by medications representing 7%-29%. ⺠Mortality in women in the selected fracture cohorts was higher than in women in the non-fracture cohorts.
