Abstract
⺠The plasma membrane calcium ATPase (PMCA) Atp2b1a acts in biomineralization of bones and teeth. ⺠The transgenic Atp2b1a embryo expresses GFP in the pharyngeal epithelium. A subset of these cells represents the ameloblasts. ⺠The functional role of Atp2b1a was shown in pharyngeal teeth development and calcification by in vivo experiments. ⺠Atp2b1a may similarly regulate calcification of other bone-forming regions. ⺠During development of pharyngeal epithelium atp2b1a is regulated by the homeodomain transcription factor Dlx2b.
