Abstract
⺠We identify six developmentally-important morphogenetic spatial scales. ⺠Cell-intrinsic mechanical forces integrate up spatial scales. ⺠Extrinsic forces elicit passive responses down spatial scales. ⺠Non-linear cell behaviour can result from cells sensing mechanical cues. ⺠Automated image analysis methods now allow multi-scale approaches.
