Abstract
⺠We manipulated male body condition to examine effects on hormones and plumage. ⺠Males with enhanced condition molted more of the sexually preferred plumage. ⺠No relationship existed between condition and either androgens or corticosterone. ⺠Alternate explanations are required to link condition and sexual signal elaboration.
