Abstract
⺠Cats share many clinical and most pathophysiological characteristics with human type 2 diabetes. ⺠Chronically elevated glucose levels produce a profound glucotoxic effect in cats. ⺠Chronic subacute endotoxemia leads to organ specific insulin resistance in cats. ⺠Pancreatic amyloid is a consistent finding in diabetic cats.
