Abstract
⺠We report the complete chloroplast genome sequence of Elodea canadensis. ⺠We compare chloroplast genome organization among monocots. ⺠The structure of inverted repeats (IR) in Elodea is unique among monocot species. ⺠IRs of Elodea are similar to an Amborella-like ancestor to present-day monocots. ⺠Phylogenetic analysis supports for the placement of Elodea as a basal monocot.
