Abstract

âº We report the complete chloroplast genome sequence of Elodea canadensis. âº We compare chloroplast genome organization among monocots. âº The structure of inverted repeats (IR) in Elodea is unique among monocot species. âº IRs of Elodea are similar to an Amborella-like ancestor to present-day monocots. âº Phylogenetic analysis supports for the placement of Elodea as a basal monocot.
