Abstract
⺠We simulated datasets for genomes of prokaryotes with varying genome types. ⺠Assembly was fragmented by mobile elements and genes repeated on other replicons. ⺠The most fragmented regions corresponded to known genomic islands. ⺠This result was compared to real data. ⺠The genomic context of acquired genes is lost when assemblies are left as drafts.
