Abstract
ⶠSmGluR is a novel metabotropic glutamate receptor of S. mansoni. ⶠHeterologously expressed SmGluR is selectively activated by glutamate and signals through an increase in cAMP. ⶠImmunolocalization studies suggest an important role for SmGluR in neuronal signaling and female reproduction. ⶠThis study provides the first molecular evidence for a glutamate signaling system in schistosomes.
