Importance of RNA isolation methods for analysis of exosomal RNA: Evaluation of different methods

► In this study we evaluated seven available methods to extract exosomal RNA. ► The exosomal RNA yield and patterns differ extensively between the different isolation methods. ► A pure column based approach resulted in the highest RNA yield and the broadest RNA size distribution. ► Phenol and combined techniques resulted in reduced yield of exosomal RNA, with an enrichment of small RNA including microRNA.
