A novel mutation in the C3 gene and recurrent invasive pneumococcal infection: A clue for vaccine development

► A novel mutation in the C3 gene is identified in a 4 year old boy with recurrent pneumococcal infections. ► Despite his C3 deficiency, this patient was able to mount an adaptive immune response to protein-conjugated pneumococcal vaccines but not to polysaccharide-based antigen vaccines.
