Abstract
► Increased MAC deposition resulting from enhanced complement activation causes the apoptosis of RGCs in the glaucomatous eyes. ► Complement depletion inhibits both extrinsic and intrinsic pathways of apoptosis in rat eyes with elevated IOP. ► Depletion of complement system blocks Ca2+ influx in the RGCs of glaucomatous eyes. ► Inhibition of complement system is a potential strategy for preventing damage of RGCs in the eyes with glaucoma.
