► Intracerebroventricular injection is established for use in Lythypnus dalli. ► Elevated ventilation indicates successful corticotropin-releasing factor injection. ► icv corticotropin-releasing factor does not increase systemic cortisol. ► icv injection delays the recovery of equilibrium during emergence from anesthesia. ► Anesthesia recovery analysis successfully detects the effects of icv neuropeptides.
