► Effects of DCS on extinction (EXT) and spontaneous recovery (SR) of conditioned taste aversion (CTA). ► Chronic DCS fails to speed EXT and enhances SR of a CTA. ► Effects of acute DCS depend on the method of CTA EXT employed. ► Acute DCS generally shorted the time to reach asymptotic EXT. ► The timing of acute DCS during EXT and method of EXT interact to affect SR of CTA.
