Abstract
⺠We investigated the effect of MMP-2 deficiency on atherosclerotic calcification. ⺠The atherosclerotic calcification at the aortic arch was suppressed in MMP-2â/â, Apoeâ/â mice. ⺠Cultured MMP-2â/â SMCs derived from mouse aorta inhibited mineral deposition induced by β- GP stimulation. ⺠MMP-2 may participate in the calcification of SMCs, contributing to the formation of vascular calcified lesions.
