Abstract
⺠We compared the effects of the acute statin administration prior to percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with the effects of staccato or abrupt reperfusion on coronary microcirculation as assessed by contrast echocardiography in patients with myocardial infarction. ⺠We found a beneficial effect of acute statin administration prior to PCI on myocardial microcirculation as well as on left ventricular remodeling 30 days post-PCI. ⺠There was a close association between the improvement of myocardial microcirculation by statin administration and the concomitant improvement in left ventricular function and remodeling post-PCI. ⺠There was a synergistic effect between statin administration and staccato reperfusion during PCI on the improvement of myocardial microcirculation and left ventricular remodeling.
