Bi2V0.9Cu0.1O5.35 (BICUVOX.10) powders and dense membranes were synthesized by the solid-state reaction (SSR) and EDTA-citric acid (EC) methods and investigated by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, oxygen permeation test, and impedance spectroscopy. The results showed that the EC process gave pure BICUVOX.10 powder more easily than the SSR method. However, the membrane from the SSR method was more stable than the membrane from the EC method. The maximum current density without inducing potential instability through the membranes from the EC method and SSR method were, respectively, 1.6 and 1.2 A/cm2, and the oxygen fluxes were 3.9 and 4.5 ml/(min cm2) at 400 °C. The microstructure of the membrane, such as the grain size, influenced the oxygen permeability and conductivity significantly.
