Abstract
â¢Preeclampsia is common and may affect multiple organ systems.â¢Many less common disorders may imitate preeclampsia.â¢Consideration of other diagnoses is important regarding prognosis and management of the index pregnancy, the risk of recurrence, and the long-term health of the mother.â¢Alternative diagnoses should particularly be considered when there is onset of clinical features of preeclampsia before 20 weeks gestation.
This review article describes disorders that may imitate preeclampsia (PET), preeclampsia with haemolysis, elevated liver enzymes and low platelets (HELLP syndrome) and eclampsia.
