Abstract

Parkinson disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder with both contributions of genetic and environmental factors. Protective functions of vitamin D and then vitamin D receptor (VDR) in PD have been declared recently. In this study we investigated the association of VDR rs4334089 gene polymorphism with PD in Iranian population.A total of 1040 subjects including 520 PD patients and 520 unrelated control subjects were recruited in a case-control study. DNA was extracted from peripheral blood of all subjects and rs4334089 polymorphism of VDR was genotyped using PCR-RFLP method.Genotype and allele frequency of rs4334089 were significantly different in PD and control groups and A allele was significantly more frequent in PD patients compared to control group. Our findings suggest that VDR rs4334089 A allele could be a risk factors for PD in Iranian population, although more replication studies are needed to confirm our findings.
