Abstract
⺠We compare the direct cost of 5810 people with epilepsy to 5810 without epilepsy. ⺠Subjects and controls were match-paired from 6 U.S. health plans in 2009. ⺠The mean cost for people with epilepsy was $11,232 vs. $3026 for controls. ⺠The excess annual cost for people with epilepsy was $8206. ⺠The major cost drivers for epilepsy were inpatient (40%) and outpatient (22%) care.
