Abstract
⺠The anticonvulsant action of the antidepressant sertraline was investigated. ⺠Sertraline inhibited tonic-clonic seizures in two different seizure animal models. ⺠Sertraline also inhibited the EEG epileptiform activity induced by 4-AP and by PTZ. ⺠Those sertraline actions were dose-dependent and comparable to carbamazepine. ⺠These findings are relevant as depression is common in epileptic patients.
