Abstract
⺠Men and women with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy and temporal lobe epilepsy were compared with respect to gender-specific differences. ⺠There were few differences between the two genders with respect to seizure characteristics and temporal course of epilepsy. ⺠Women with epilepsy had more anxiety and a higher unemployment rate although they attained higher educational levels. ⺠Women experienced more difficulty in finding marriage partners and had higher rates of divorce/separation as compared with men. ⺠This study confirms that women with epilepsy experience more psychosocial problems than men even when their clinical profiles are comparable.
