Abstract
⺠Effects of pioglitazone on the recovery from ischemic stroke were studied. ⺠Post-ischemic pioglitazone treatment reduces infarct volume. ⺠Post-ischemic pioglitazone treatment improves neurological outcome. ⺠Systemic pioglitazone treatment protects neurons and promotes neuronal regeneration. ⺠Clinical stroke trials with pioglitazone are proposed.
