Abstract
⺠A significant portion of patients with epilepsy are resistant to medical treatment. ⺠Understanding mechanisms of resistance is needed for developing more efficacious treatments. ⺠In epileptic rats, EEG video/monitoring was used to evaluate response to phenobarbital. ⺠About 50% of the rats were resistant, while other rats responded with significant seizure suppression. ⺠Several factors that may be relevant for resistance were compared in responders and nonresponders.
