Abstract
⺠The adult central nervous system has a limited capacity for repair following spinal cord injury. ⺠Recovery is affected by: age; the size/location of the lesion; and remaining circuit activity. ⺠Two potential treatments are neutralising growth inhibition and rehabilitative training. ⺠Independently, both approaches lead to functional recovery and anatomical reorganisation. ⺠In combination, the outcome is less clear. The mechanisms for this are currently being unravelled.
