Abstract
► Cobalamin (Cbl) deficiency increases PrPC levels in the SC and CSF of the rat. ► Antibodies against the OR-region of a PrPC molecule normalize SC myelin in Cbl-D rats. ► Cbl deficiency reduces SC PrPC-mRNA levels, which are increased by Cbl replacement. ► EGF and anti-TNF-α-antibodies prevent SC PrPC increase in Cbl-D rats. ► Chronic PrPC administration to otherwise normal rats induces SC myelin lesions.
