Abstract
⺠Polymorphisms in complement CR1 gene linked to increased risk of Alzheimer's disease. ⺠Microglial CR1 activation linked to phagocytosis and Aβ clearance. ⺠Activated microglia show enhanced CR1 expression and microglial CR1 stimulation is detrimental to neurons. ⺠Block of CR1 decreased Aβ phagocytosis, but enhanced dextran bead uptake.
