Abstract
► Experimental epilepsy reduces the complexity of interneuron firing patterns. ► There is a loss of interneurons able to fire at high frequency. ► The loss is not due to cell death but instead is due to interneuron plasticity. ► The phenotype change is due to the up-regulation of a potassium current identified as the Kv1.6 subtype. ► Our data suggest a new mechanism by which epileptic seizures are generated.
