Abstract
► Tau is a cytoplasmic protein, thought to be released only from degenerating cells. ► We show that small amounts of tau and phospho-tau are released from intact cells. ► Tau is released by unconventional secretion. ► The secretion mechanism is temperature dependent. ► The secreted tau is full length and not vesicle associated.
