Abstract
⺠Tau is a cytoplasmic protein, thought to be released only from degenerating cells. ⺠We show that small amounts of tau and phospho-tau are released from intact cells. ⺠Tau is released by unconventional secretion. ⺠The secretion mechanism is temperature dependent. ⺠The secreted tau is full length and not vesicle associated.
