Abstract
► A significant portion of patients with epilepsy is resistant to systemic drug treatment. ► Focal drug delivery may offer an alternative to resective surgery in such patients. ► The anticonvulsant effect of focal vs. systemic treatment was compared in rats. ► Target regions were substantia nigra pars reticulata and subthalamic nucleus. ► Bilateral microinjection into subthalamic nucleus was the most effective treatment.
