Abstract
⺠A significant portion of patients with epilepsy is resistant to systemic drug treatment. ⺠Focal drug delivery may offer an alternative to resective surgery in such patients. ⺠The anticonvulsant effect of focal vs. systemic treatment was compared in rats. ⺠Target regions were substantia nigra pars reticulata and subthalamic nucleus. ⺠Bilateral microinjection into subthalamic nucleus was the most effective treatment.
