Abstract
⺠A new mouse model of GLUT-1 deficiency allowed for electrophysiological and metabolic analysis. ⺠Thalamocortical oscillations are potentially relevant to the epileptic phenotype of GLUT-1 deficiency. ⺠Aerobic energy metabolism related to the Krebs cycle is intact in the mouse model, in contrast with enhanced lipid metabolism. ⺠Thus, we contest the contention that decreased brain glucose transport causes energy failure.
