Identifying the sources of the pulse artefact in EEG recordings made inside an MR scanner

► We experimentally isolate the putative sources of the pulse artefact (PA) in humans. ► Head rotation is the dominant source its removal produces a 61% reduction of the PA. ► Removing Hall effect produces a considerable, 42%, reduction in PA. ► Hall effect produces largest contribution to PA variance across cardiac cycles.
