Processing of speech and non-speech sounds in the supratemporal plane: Auditory input preference does not predict sensitivity to statistical structure

► Neural responses to sequences of speech and non-speech (bird) sounds were examined. ► The statistical structure (SS) of the auditory sequences was manipulated. ► The supratemporal plane (STP) was sensitive to the SS of all sequences. ► Some areas responded to speech and non-speech but coded SS in only one input type. ► Areas preferring speech but coding SS in all sequences were also found.
